About this festival

The Colorado Environmental Film Festival is the state’s first and only international festival focused exclusively on environmental themes, held each February at the Green Center on the Colorado School of Mines campus in Golden. It bills itself as the largest environmental film festival between the country’s East and West coasts, and its audience has grown from a tiny first-year crowd to around 5,000 over two decades. The 2026 edition presented 53 films — 17 features and 36 shorts — from filmmakers in more than a dozen countries, including world, U.S., and Colorado premieres. Alongside screenings, the festival programs filmmaker Q&As, panels, an Eco-Expo of environmentally focused organizations, dedicated kids’ and youth-made programming, and a multi-day online encore that extends access nationally.
