SeriesFest is an international television festival held annually in Denver, celebrating independent episodic storytelling and serving as “television’s Sundance.” Founded in 2015 by Randi Kleiner and Kaily Smith, the festival has established itself as a premier discovery platform for emerging creators and a launchpad for television series, with alumni shows picked up by major networks including MAX, Apple TV+, AMC, Netflix, Hulu, and Showtime.
The five-day festival takes place each May at the Sie FilmCenter and features competition screenings, network premieres, panel discussions, workshops, and red carpet events. SeriesFest screens more than 40 independent pilots across categories including drama, comedy, unscripted content, digital shorts, and late-night programming. The festival has premiered acclaimed series including Yellowstone, Mr. Robot, Dr. Death, and New Amsterdam, while hosting iconic moments like the 20th anniversary panel of Grey’s Anatomy.
Operating as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, SeriesFest champions diversity in television through year-round programs supporting underserved creators. The festival evaluates submissions based on hiring and casting practices that promote underrepresented voices. Special programs include the Storytellers Initiative screenwriting competition, partnerships with Shondaland and other production companies, and “Pilots in Progress” sessions where audiences provide feedback directly to creators.
Denver was chosen as home base in recognition of its role as the birthplace of cable television. The festival also hosts legendary concerts at Red Rocks Amphitheatre featuring artists like John Legend, Sia, and Stevie Wonder.
