About this festival
Founded in 1979, Mountainfilm is one of North America’s longest-running documentary film festivals — and now an Academy Award qualifying festival in the Documentary Short Film category. Held every Memorial Day weekend in Telluride, the festival celebrates adventure, activism, social justice, environment, and what its programmers call indomitable spirit. The four-day program extends well beyond screenings: the Minds Moving Mountains speaker series, art and photography exhibits, early-morning coffee talks, outdoor programs, a closing picnic and awards ceremony. Mountainfilm draws filmmakers, adventurers, scientists, and activists to one of Colorado’s most striking mountain settings — and consistently delivers documentary programming that matches the surroundings.
