The People’s Building in Aurora will host the world premiere of In the Absence of Shelter, a documentary following students at the Rocky Mountain School of Expeditionary Learning, on Thursday, May 28.
The film runs approximately one hour and traces RMSEL students as they step beyond graduation into a solo wilderness journey that tests what they’ve learned over their years in the program. The screening is bookended by opening remarks and a post-film talk-back, with the full program scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m.
RMSEL is a K–12 public school of choice operated as a partnership between the Aurora, Denver and Littleton school districts and the Public Education & Business Coalition. Its curriculum is built on Outward Bound principles and organized around multidisciplinary learning expeditions, with character values — courage, discipline, responsibility, integrity and compassion — woven into daily school life alongside academic standards.
The People’s Building, at 9995 E. Colfax Ave., is an Aurora arts and performance venue supporting local artists and community programming.
General admission tickets are $20, with a $5 rate for students and faculty. Tickets and additional details are available through the venue’s ticketing page.
