A three-screen Art Deco movie palace in Denver’s Baker District, opened in 1930 and one of only three remaining U.S. theaters in the Mayan Revival style. Saved from demolition in 1984 by the grassroots Friends of the Mayan and reopened after a $2 million restoration in 1986, the Mayan has been operated by Landmark since the reopening. The main floor auditorium is the room to see — one of the most distinctive screening spaces in Colorado. Programming runs first-run independent, foreign-language, and prestige cinema. Street parking is the norm; the building sits among galleries, restaurants, and shops on South Broadway.
