DENVER – John Cho received the Outlaw Award from the 49th Denver Film Festival on Friday, Oct. 23, at the Sie FilmCenter, ahead of an 8:50 p.m. screening of “Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother.” The award honors excellence in antagonist performances.
Cho is known for playing the title role in “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle” and Lt. Hikaru Sulu in the “Star Trek” reboots, as well as for his work in “Columbus” and “Searching.” In “Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother,” he plays the foil to Mahershala Ali’s desperate father and hitman. Cho is also an Independent Spirit Award nominee and a New York Times best-selling author.
Also on Friday, the festival hosted a red carpet at the MCA Holiday Theater at 6:30 p.m. for the premiere of “Welcome to the Fishbowl,” followed by a 7 p.m. screening and a post-film Q&A. Natalie Gold, Jeremy Swift, Marin Hinkle, writer-director Sheryl Glubok and producer Iana Dontcheva were scheduled to attend. The film follows a Denver mom, played by Gold, who must drive a notoriously difficult author, played by Swift, from Denver to Telluride.
The 49th Denver Film Festival runs through Nov. 1 with more than 130 screenings at locations across Denver. Tickets are available at denverfilm.org/denverfilmfestival.
